Household account rules
Same address
Up to 7 people can pool Avios in one household account. Members must be registered at the same address, and BA can ask you to verify it.
18+ to run the account
The head of the household must be 18 or over. They receive all account communications and are the only person who can add or remove members.
Members are locked in for 6 months
Anyone you add must stay in the household account for at least 6 months before they can be removed — so add carefully.
Everyone can spend the pool
Any member can redeem from the combined balance. When Avios are spent they are deducted pro-rata from every member’s balance, not from one person.
You still earn individually
Avios and tier points you earn land on your own account first. Only the redeemable Avios are pooled — everyone moves through the tiers on their own.
Family & Friends list
You can name up to 5 extra people to book reward flights for, even if they are not in the household. Names can only be changed after 6 months.
Removing a child closes their account
Adults keep their own Avios if they leave. But an under-18 account added to a household is closed on removal and its Avios are lost.
Companion vouchers still work
A BA Amex companion voucher can be used with the pool — the second traveller just has to be in your household account or on your Family & Friends list.
Is it worth setting up?
Pros
  • Combine Avios so the family reaches a big redemption years sooner
  • Everyone can book reward flights from one shared pot
  • Keep earning tier points and status on your own account
  • Works with BA Amex companion vouchers for household or Family & Friends travellers
  • Add partners, kids and up to 5 extra Family & Friends nominees
Cons
  • All members must be registered at the same address
  • Members are locked in for 6 months before they can be removed
  • Only the head of household controls who is added or removed
  • Removing a child’s account loses their Avios
  • Spending pulls pro-rata from everyone, so track balances if a member plans to leave
How a BA household account works

A British Airways Club household account lets up to seven people at the same address combine their Avios into one shared pot that any member can redeem. You keep earning Avios and tier points on your own account — only the redeemable balance is pooled.

It's the fastest way for a family to reach a big long-haul redemption together. Just remember members are locked in for six months, and only the head of the household can add or remove people. Building your balance faster? Compare the best UK Avios credit cards.
