Why a BA Holiday beats flight-only for status
On a BA Holiday, every £1 of the package — flights, hotel and car hire — earns a tier point.
Book the same trip as flight-only and pay for the hotel separately, and only the flight fare earns; your accommodation spend earns
nothing toward status. Whenever a meaningful chunk of your trip is hotel or car hire, packaging wins for tier points.

What counts toward tier points — and what doesn't
- The total package price paid to BA Holidays before travel — including hotel and car hire
- Add-ons like seat selection and extra bags earn 2 tier points per £1
- The flight element of a BA Holiday does not earn separately — the package rate replaces it
- Money spent at the hotel (resort fees, extras paid on arrival) earns nothing
- Government taxes, APD and airport charges are excluded from flight-only earning
- Avios reward-flight taxes and standalone hotel/car bookings earn no tier points
- Points are split evenly between passengers aged 2+ on the booking, each needing their own BA Club number
Your membership year resets every 1 April
- Tier points are counted over a fixed membership year: 1 April to 31 March
- Your balance resets to zero each 1 April — hit the threshold before then to earn or keep status
- Package points post within ~14 days of your holiday finishing, so leave a buffer before your year ends

Estimates only, based on The British Airways Club rules from 1 April 2025. Tier point earning depends on your exact fare and eligible spend.
