Delta Companion Certificate Calculator

Work out what the annual Delta Amex companion certificate is really worth — and whether the card pays for itself. Data verified April 2026.

Is the card worth it for the certificate alone?

Eligibility checklist

Route: Round-trip within the 48 contiguous US states, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, USVI — plus the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America.
Round trip only — one-ways aren't eligible, and both travelers must be on the same reservation.
Eligible fare classes only. Main Cabin certificates book into L, U, T, X or V. Reserve first-class certificates book into I or Z (Comfort+: W). If those buckets are sold out on your dates, the certificate won't apply.
Book on delta.com — the certificate appears automatically in checkout under "Certificates, eCredits & Vouchers" while logged in to the SkyMiles account that holds it.
Companion pays taxes and fees — typically $22–$250 depending on the route.
Issued on card renewal each year (not on first approval) and valid for one year from issue.

Tips to actually use it

📅 Book early. Certificate fare buckets (L/U/T/X/V) are capacity-controlled and disappear first on popular routes and dates.
💰 Use it on your most expensive eligible route. The certificate's value equals the fare your companion would have paid — a $700 Hawaii round trip beats a $180 short hop.
🔎 Check certificate availability before committing to dates. Search on delta.com while logged in; if the certificate price doesn't show, try nearby dates.
Don't sit on it. It expires 12 months after issue and unused certificates are the #1 reason the card math fails.
